Why Do I Fanboy...Roald Dahl? Part 2

Aside from his spectacular novels, the film adaptations of Roald Dahl's work also inspired me as a child. Particularly Gene Wilder's 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory', an adaptation of possibly Dahl's most popular book and 'Witches', and adaptation of one of my own personal favourites.
'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory' remains among my favourite films to this very day and a perfect example of a family film. 'Witches was an admittedly weaker adaptation due to the horrible ending, which removes the complex 'bittersweet' taste of the original book. However despite this I still enjoyed it as a child and find it decent as an adult.
I did not watch the adaptation of 'James and the Giant Peach' until I was slightly older, around 9 or 10 years old. It was never that impressive to me, however I do remember watching it frequently, and I now view it as a merely average effort, despite highly charming and impressive animation. I find enjoyment in very film based of Dahl's novels, with the exception of Wes Anderson's horrible adaptation of 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'. This film received critical acclaim upon this release a phenomenon that I still cannot comprehend, and was even nominated for an Academy Award. I will reserve my deeper feelings on this film until a latter date.
